Abstract

Franz Kafka is one of the most important writers in world literature. His works have been the subject of countless interpretations and analyses, and represent a unique atmosphere that has had a great influence on the Western literary tradition. This essay, written by the German-French writer and translator Georges-Arthur Goldschmidt, is a refreshing approach to Kafka. Goldschmidt opens up Kafka's texts to the reader by linking them to the possible context in which they may have stood, and to Goldschmidt's own surprising and thought-provoking associations with the works of other writers, men of letters and philosophers. This essay is an alternative and personal reading of Kafka that differs from other analyses and interpretations in an original way. The translation has comments on the text and the context, as well as a preface about Kafka and Goldschmidt and an afterword about the translation.

Franz Kafka er en av verdenslitteraturens mest betydningsfulle forfattere. Verkene hans har vært gjenstand for utallige tolkninger og analyser, og representerer en unik stemning som har hatt stor innflytelse på den vestlige litterære tradisjonen.
