Against the background of multiple ecological, economic, political, or health crises, anxiety has become an overwhelming feeling characterising the early twenty-first century. This study identifies a broad reaction to this condition in contemporary British theatre – the theatre of anxiety. It focuses on the interplay of theatre and anxiety on both a thematic and aesthetic level, combining a phenomenological and sociological approach.
