            Abstract
            Faut-il encore lire les historiens disparus ? Le cas de Pierre Chaunu est intéressant car l’homme a marqué pendant un demi-siècle des générations d’historiens et touché un public important. Depuis sa position centrale dans l’establishment, à la Sorbonne, chez les éditeurs, et jusqu’à l’Académie des sciences morales et politiques et au Figaro, son rayonnement a été considérable. Or, ce livre est composé surtout de textes d’historiens n’ayant pas connu Pierre Chaunu : l’interrogation porte ainsi sur la pérennité et la caducité des idées que l’on produit. Celles de Pierre Chaunu se sont transformées, perpétuées, et périmées au gré des grandes mutations politiques, techniques et culturelles de la fin du XXe siècle et durant le premier quart du XXIe siècle. Reflets du temps qui passent, des modes intellectuelles et de la permanence des angoisses de l’historien face à ses propres regards sur le passé, ces contributions – loin d’une hagiographie – éclairent d’un jour nouveau la manière dont l’historien compose l’histoire…
