Abstract
Written in 1902, on the occasion of the competition "What is the Spanish University today and what should it be in the future", organised by the Universidad de Valencia to celebrate its IV Centenary, this work of Giner's maturity opened the path along which a relevant sector of our historiography on universities has followed.
 
Escrito en 1902, con ocasión del certamen “Qué es actualmente la Universidad española y qué debe ser en el porvenir”, convocado por la Universidad de Valencia para celebrar su IV Centenario, esta obra de madurez de Giner abrió la senda por la que ha transitado un sector relevante de nuestra historiografía sobre las universidades.
