            Résumé
Is it still possible to tell the story of comics without talking about the women who have contributed to it? This collective book aims to restore women creators to their rightful place, and to rethink the history of the art of comic strip by focusing on their careers, their subjects and their works. Based on the research carried out by the working group “Les Bréchoises” in 2020-2022, the book offers resources for mapping out a women comic-book heritage in Europe and the Americas, from the 19th century to the present day. Devoted to the aesthetic, discursive, political and gendered evolution of comics, it highlights the work of the colourists, illustrators, editors and scriptwriters who have contributed to this medium. Their presence in the professional field of comics in France, Spain, Canada, the United States, Germany, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Belgium constitutes a vast and complex heritage whose components, contrary to popular belief, are hundreds. The book therefore invites us to reread the history of this form of expression in an inclusive and cross-disciplinary approach that spans the centuries and spaces.
