Abstract

This book brings together 13 scholarly essays and deeply explores into the inheritance and evolution of Chinese temples across different regions, covering areas such as Jiangnan (the area around Jiangsu and Zhejiang), Southern Fujian, Western Guangdong, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. Combining comparative perspectives and diverse methods, this book explores the social functions and roles of temples in society through fieldwork, inscriptions, rituals, traditional customs, and local communities.
