Object inventories, collection catalogs, and other object lists can be used to reconstruct ownership, track the circulation of objects and object knowledge, and study consumer behavior. Accordingly, such lists have aroused considerable interest in the fields of trade, materiality, and provenance research. At the same time, lists are considered "little tools of knowledge" in early modern research, among those instruments of knowledge organization that accompanied, if not paved, the path to modernity. This volume examines the intertwined relationship between these "data repositories" and the "data" they contain for the early modern period, thus shedding light on the epistemics and functions of such lists. It brings together contributions on the history of architecture, literature, art, culture, and knowledge in the early modern period.
