At the crossroads of the medieval and modern eras, new forms of government were put in place, promoting the development of the state apparatus through the deployment of councils and advisors to reinforce the authority of princes. This book places these political and administrative experiments in the context of the religious reforms of Renaissance Europe. Based on the practices of the Navarrese monarchy, the study is extended to other European and American territories.
