Ephemeral rivers (ravines, rills, dry channels except in sudden and occasional floods) have a large presence in the Mediterranean territory, where they constitute the majority of the river network. They are fundamental natural systems in the hydrological cycle for the transport of water, sediments and nutrients, and, therefore, excellent indicators of climate and global change. Their enhancement, the recognition of their role, their hydromorphological values and their ecosystem services are absolutely necessary to understand their degree of resilience and contribution to adaptation to climate change. And it is very urgent to work on their management, restoration and conservation, because in general they are subject to strong pressures and are greatly damaged. This guide warns about the multiple impacts they suffer, disseminates this great Mediterranean heritage, so underestimated and little known, and proposes 33 good practices for its management and restoration. It is a guide that can provide ideas to those responsible for management, but it is intended for society as a whole, because the challenge is very complex: we have to recover ephemeral courses based on knowledge and awareness. And act quickly, because it is already late and until now practically nothing has been done to respect, protect and recover these essential river systems in our territory. This is our challenge.
