In the first half of the 19th century, Latin America was a fascinating and original laboratory for modern republicanism. This book explores how intellectual transfers between the Old and New Worlds nurtured such a profusion of political ideas. It focuses on the creativity of translators, the circulation of works and the adaptation of concepts from one language to another. The analysis of political languages is thus renewed and enriched by the cultural history of translation.
