In agriculture, commerce, catering and the craft sector, the business owner is also the 'head' of the family, relying on the support of other family members to help him or her in the business. Setting up a very small business is often seen as a life project that involves several members of the family unit. The link between family and work is both a strength and a weakness for the business. The couple's attachment to the business is a strength, but the fact that women are often self-employed is a weakness, making the business vulnerable in the event of a family breakdown (death, divorce or accident). Before weakening the VSE, the family/work relationship can also be the cause of tension and breakdown.
