publisher.programEvery year, wbg realizes around 200 publications. Many of these are only made possible by support of our members. Wbg publishes non-fiction books and specialist, study and research literature. A large part of these publications belongs to the disciplines history – including classical studies, archaeology and contemporary history – and politics. Further important fields are philosophy und theology. With its label wbg Academic wbg represents a broad range of specialised, scholarly and academic literature. Among these are scientific book series, some of which have been well-known for several decades in their scientific field. The focus lies on the main subjects history, classical studies, philology, theology and philosophy as well as the fines arts and cultural studies. Natural sciences, with emphasis on geoscience, is also given room, provided the publications in question are relatable to topics and concerns of the humanities. Wbg aims to ensure the highest possible visibility for scientific findings. That is why Open Access is offered as a free option for all of our scientific publications. Thereby, the authors / editors are free to opt for an instantaneous free availability alongside the print version (Open Access Gold) or an initially chargeable eBook, which is made available at a later point (Open Access Green). With wbg, the foundation of an Open Access publication is as a rule a printed book. Especially for authors who want to profit from the advantages of a cooperation with an experienced publishing house while additionally increasing their visibility through an Open Access-publication, this is an ideal solution.en_US

publisher.oalicenseOpen Access publications with wbg are credited with a so-called Creative Commons Licence which regulates the usage of the text. Wbg recommends usually a CC-BY-NC-Licence, which withholds among other things commercial use by third parties. Of course, individual decisions can be made based on the wishes of authors and editors and according to the guidelines of funding institutions.en_US
publisher.peerreviewpolicyAll the titles in the scientific program of wbg are evaluated through a strict reviewing process. Dissertation theses and other academic qualifications must be awarded at least the second highest grade available (magna cum laude in Germany) in order to be published within the program of wbg. Furthermore, most of the titles are published in book series, which are edited by renowned scientists. The editors of the publication series are responsible for the general concept of the series and evaluate the proposed manuscripts. In order to make sure that the published texts meet the required standards, the editors consult external reviewers if necessary. For this purpose, wbg cooperates with a network of leading experts from different scientific fields. Additionally, most of the publication series entertain an editorial board which ensures the quality of the published texts. Some monographies and edited volumes are published Open Access outside of publication series. They as well are evaluated by independent reviewers prior to the approval for publication by wbg. The process of publication and the standards of evaluation are made transparent for authors as well as reviewers. Wbg seeks to establish long-term and trustworthy relationships with authors and editors of book series.en_US
