publisher.programIn July 2024, Hong Kong University Press, in collaboration with two other local university presses and their respective university libraries, jointly launched the "Open Books Hong Kong" initiative—an unprecedented attempt to make books openly accessible within the Chinese-language publishing sector. Each university press has adopted a model of releasing 3 open access titles each quarter, and to date, each has made 15 titles available, collectively achieving over 500,000 views and receiving highly positive feedback. As the project enters its second year, Hong Kong University Press is beginning to make its English-language books available through open access. By participating in DOAB, we hope to further broaden the reach and possibilities of our open access publishing program.en_US

publisher.peerreviewpolicyAs a university press, we uphold the highest standards of academic quality through a rigorous and impartial peer review process. All submitted manuscripts are evaluated by independent experts in the relevant field, selected to ensure objectivity and avoid conflicts of interest. Reviewer identities remain confidential to maintain the integrity of the process. Authors may suggest or oppose potential reviewers, but final selection is determined by the Press. Peer review typically takes at least two months. Final publication decisions are based on reviewers’ reports and approval by the Editorial Board following an internal assessment. Only manuscripts meeting our standards for scholarly excellence and originality are approved for publication.en_US
