dc.description.abstractSince the end of the 20th century, the development of nanotechnology has enabled observation and the manipulation of the matter at the nanoscale. This important development has opened up a whole new field to develop new materials, with a huge amount of potential new properties that could be useful in a wide range of applications. Recently, the research in this field has marked a continuous growth in different aspects related to the development of new nanomaterials, characterization of their properties, improvement of testing techniques to adapt to the nanoscale, and application of the nanomaterials and nanotechnology in different sectors: from the healthcare sector, in which the small size of the particles spread the possibilities of the action of the nanoparticles in the human body, across the electronics industry, that is constantly miniaturizing their devices while their requirements are more challenging, to the coatings for the transportation industry or environmental applications regarding water, soil or air treatment. The topics dealt with in this volume perfectly contextualize the current interest in the development of new nanomaterials, nanotechnology, and nanodevices, and are of crucial importance for future research.
