Abstract

The book analyses architectural and landscape characteristics of the traditional Chinese courtyard as one of the most important parts of traditional Chinese architectural and landscape forms and the core component of Chinese dwellings. The courtyard space meets people's various living needs and has its own historical, cultural, and artistic values. With modern socio-economic development and urbanization, the traditional courtyard has faced many contradictions. The question of how to transform the traditional courtyard, which is a product of traditional lifestyle, into a space that fits modern life while preserving its design essence and living culture is the main content of this book.
