This chapter first discusses the figures and trends regarding transnational adoption for China as well as for Belgium and the Netherlands. Then, a contextual overview of reproductive policy in China and the malpractices related to transnational adoption in China is provided. This is followed by an in-depth examination of initiatives for restoration and justice within the context of transnational adoption from China to Belgium and the Netherlands, based on an extensive literature review. With this chapter, I aim to contribute to the growing field of critical adoption studies and, more importantly, to ensure that this information reaches Chinese adoptees. This contribution will identify and highlight various initiatives for restoration and justice. These initiatives include, among other things, the implementation of restorative justice practices; transparency and oversight of adoption documentation, advocating for more transparency; access to adoption files and search procedures; support for searches through DNA databases; establishment of centers for inquiries regarding ancestry; and support for social interaction and community building. By examining these initiatives, this contribution aims to provide insight into possible pathways to restoration and justice for Chinese adoptees and to facilitate their journey of self-discovery.
