publisher.descriptionThe French Centre for Ethiopian Studies (CFEE) is a French Research Institute Abroad (IFRE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI) as well as the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS / INSHS). This Centre, based in Addis Ababa, is the result of nearly a century of scientific collaboration between France and Ethiopia. Research conducted in the CFEE concerns the fields of Earth Sciences, Palaeontology, Archaeology, Human and Social Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. The CFEE publishes the journal Annales d’Éthiopie (started in 1955), and books about Ethiopia and other countries of the Horn of Africa intended for the scientific community as well as for general readership. The digital publication platform OpenEdition Books brings back old publications of the CFEE to life and allows a wide audience to access previously unpublished texts. The CFEE started three collections of digital books for this purpose: the new collection “Contemporary Horn of Africa” (that encompasses both books that were previously published by the CFEE and new works), the collection “Bulletins de la Maison des études éthiopiennes” (that republishes volumes published between 1992 and 1997 by the Maison des études éthiopiennes, the ancestor of the CFEE), and the collection “Annales d’Éthiopie Hors Séries” (that republishes Special Issues of the Annales d’Éthiopie, that aim at publishing monographs or collections of studies that present research dealing with Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa in History, Archaeology, or Palaeontology). The aim of this website is twofold: to promote and disseminate old printed publications of the CFEE that are no longer sold, and to encourage the publication of previously unpublished works by giving them the opportunity to reach a wider audience in Ethiopia, the Horn of Africa, and beyond.*
